Your First Year

  • Performance evaluation process - During the probationary period, your supervisor will meet with you to discuss your onboarding training and development. Based upon your role in the organization and your job duties, your supervisor will share with you goals and performance expectations which you will work towards during the probationary period. While it's expected that your supervisor meet with you regularly to offer guidance and support, at both the mid-way point and the end of a probation period, your supervisor will also conduct a performance evaluation to formalize feedback and the progress you've made towards meeting the established goals and expectations. At the end of your probationary period, your supervisor will work with you to set new goals and performance expectations for your annual performance evaluation.

  • State of Ohio pay scales - The State of Ohio uses several different pay scales depending on whether the position is bargaining unit (union) or exempt. If you have specific pay scale questions, contact our IC Human Resources Department.

  • Step increases - Newly hired employees participating in their probationary period will move to the next step that coincides with their position’s assigned pay range. Most employees will receive a pay/step increase after 120 days for classifications in pay ranges 1 to 7 and 23 to 28 or after 180 days for classifications in pay ranges 8 to 12 and 29 to 36.

  • Benefits - As you approach the end of the first year of employment, the Department of Administrative Services will mail a packet of information to the home address it has for you on file. The packet will contain dental and vision enrollment information, and other benefits information available after your one year of service. It's important to enroll timely based on the dates provided in the materials and to include any documentation that may be necessary to show eligible dependent status.
