Your First Week


  • Meet your manager and coworkers in-person or via Microsoft Teams.

  • Get a tour of the office. Get acclimated to your office area and computer.

    • Review tutorials and job aids to learn more about your computer and available applications.

  • Set up your personal workspace. Learn your desk phone number, how to place a call and how to set up voicemail.

  • Contact the Ohio Administrative Knowledge System (OAKS) helpdesk at 800-409-1205. You will need your employee ID number and be logged on to myOhio.gov. The OAKS helpdesk will go through the login process with you so you can access your email and myOhio.gov self-service options.

    • Self-Service Quick Access will allow you to access links such as:

      • myPay – you will be able to see your pay details

      • myKronos – you will use this self-service function to enter time worked, request time off, etc.

      • myBenefits – you will be able to view your benefits summary, use during any open enrollments, etc.

    • If you have questions about Self-Service, refer to the myOhio Self-Service FAQs.

  • Complete Kronos Employee Training. If you are a manager you will be required to take the Kronos management training as well.

  • Review your job description, outline of duties and expectations. Ask how your job fits in the department, and how your job and department contribute to the IC as a whole.

  • Review any training plans that have been put together to help you learn your new job duties.

  • Review the IC’s Hours of Work policy which is available on the IC's internal agency website under the Human Resources section. Ask questions about policies and procedures for overtime, use of vacation and sick time, holidays, as well as any flexible work policies or procedures. Refer to the IC policies and your New Hire Orientation book.

  • Find out how to get additional supplies from your manager.

  • Find out about additional trainings and tutorials you will be expected to complete in the coming days and weeks.

  • Begin work on your first assignment.
