Public Records Policy

It is the policy of the Industrial Commission that openness leads to a better informed citizenry, which leads to better government and better public policy. It is the policy of the Industrial Commission to strictly adhere to the state’s Public Records Act.

Industrial Commission public records are available for inspection during our regular business hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, with the exception of published holidays. Public records will be made available for inspection promptly. Copies of public records will be made available within a reasonable period of time. Those seeking public records will be charged only the actual cost of making copies.

Ohio law makes certain public records exempt from disclosure. The Industrial Commission will review potentially responsive records before they are released to ensure exempt information is protected as permitted or required by law.

The Industrial Commission has a Public Records Request Policy, a complete copy of which is available upon request and is also posted here: Industrial Commission's Public Records Request Policy.

The Industrial Commission follows a General Schedule of records retention, which is posted on the Department of Administrative Services’ website at: https://rims.das.ohio.gov/GeneralSchedule. A copy of this schedule is also available upon request. In addition, the Industrial Commission has a Schedule of Records Retention for documents that are only produced by, or specific to, the IC.
